The definition of
"health care providers" was established by the legislature.
Only the legislature can change that definition. If
physician assistants wished to participate in the Fund, it
would be necessary for the legislature to amend the Fund law
to include physician assistants in the definition of the
"health care providers."
In the past, the
legislature has removed optometrists, pharmacists,
registered physical therapists and HMO's from the definition
of "health care providers."
